Get information on what tax codes are and learn how you can add or edit tax codes for your own resources.
What Are Tax Codes?
Tax codes are assigned to items to identify what the item is so that it receives the appropriate sales tax treatment and calculation.
You can view a complete list of any default tax codes assigned to your products by going to your “My Product Listings” page, then clicking “Edit Tax Codes” at the bottom of the menu bar on the left-hand side.
How to Edit Your Tax Codes
We’ve also introduced a tool for you to edit and assign tax codes for any paid resources. Note that only paid resources will need a tax code, since free resources are not taxed.
You can edit individual tax codes on the Upload/Edit page. Under the “Price” section, you’ll see a new field called “Tax Code”. You can use the dropdown to select a tax code for your resource, and proceed with uploading or editing your resource. (We’re working on a bulk edit tool as a next enhancement.)
For resources uploaded after 12/18/18, you can assign a new tax code on the Upload/Edit page. For resources uploaded before 12/18/18, you can edit the automatically assigned tax code. Note that free resources do not require a tax code. However, if you change a free resource to a paid resource, you’ll have to select a tax code regardless of when it was originally updated.
If you want to edit tax codes for a number of resources at the same time, first navigate to your “My Product Listings” page. Scroll to the bottom of the menu bar on the left-hand side and you’ll see a link to “Edit Tax Codes.”
You’ll be taken to a new page titled “Edit Product Tax Codes.” Select up to 100 products that you want to edit, then click the “Edit Tax Code” button on the top right of the page. Select the appropriate tax code, and then hit “Apply Tax Code.”
Once you’ve clicked “Apply Tax Code,” the tax codes will be updated for all the items you’ve selected. From there, you can navigate back to your product listings using the “Back to my listings” link on the top left, or deselect the resources you’ve updated and select new resources to update.
